What Is The National Diabetes Prevention Program?
The National Diabetes Prevention program is a yearlong evidence-based Lifestyle Change program that is proven to reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by at least 58% by increasing physical activity to 150 minutes per week and reduction of body weight by 5-7%.
- Our Diabetes Prevention Program is available in English and Spanish and is free of charge.
- Classes are offered 6 days per week at multiple HCPSC offices.
- The qualifications for joining the program are either by completing the survey or by having an A1C result of 5.7%-6.4% (prediabetes).
CDC Full Plus Recognized Program
Our Diabetes Prevention Program was initiated in 2016 and continues to hold Full Plus recognition by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We have certified lifestyle coaches to provide support and guidance to participants in the programs.
Our Director of Diabetes Programs, Marcey Westerbeck, is certified as a Master Trainer Select for the National Diabetes Prevention Program.

We also offer diabetes education and case management in English and Spanish. Our free services include one-on-one diabetes wellness and nutrition education sessions. We also offer monthly group education classes in English for people with diabetes and pre-diabetes and their family members. These monthly classes are free of charge and are open to the community.
This program will help participants with diabetes-related care, including medication management, insulin education, food and meal planning, carbohydrate counting, and diabetes complications.
